The Truth Behind “They Must Be Rich” RVing is EXPENSIVE

There’s this funny assumption people sometimes make when they see our life:

“Wow… they must be rich.”

Honestly? That one always makes us laugh.

Let’s set the record straight.

🚐 Full-Time Work… Just to Cover Life

Yes, we have a full-time job as on-site managers at Willard Peak Campground. And we’re incredibly grateful for it. But that income? It goes straight to the basics:

  • Gas
  • Groceries
  • Propane
  • Cell phones
  • Medical expenses

You know… real life.

And here’s the part most people don’t see—we work 7 days a week for that. No clocking out, no “weekends off.” It’s a lifestyle, not just a job.

🔁 The Side Hustle Reality

If we stopped there, we wouldn’t make it. So like many people trying to stay ahead, we hustle.

Our additional income streams include:

  • Cleaning the sauna
  • Running our Traveling Town Crier business
  • Affiliate links, promos, cashback apps, GPT (Get Paid To) apps
  • And yes… plasma donations

Only Mark can donate plasma (Evielynne is medically disqualified), and even that comes with its own challenges.

🩸 The Truth About Plasma Income

Let’s talk real numbers.

Mark donates twice a week and earns about:

  • $40 for one visit
  • $90 for the second

➡️ Total: $130 per week

That might sound helpful—and it is—but it’s far from life-changing.

Plasma donation takes 1–2 hours per visit, and it’s not always smooth. When a technician misses a vein, it can lead to bruising and recovery time… which means lost income for weeks.

So while plasma helps, it’s not guaranteed, and it’s definitely not easy money.

Poor Mark

🔨 Where That Money Actually Goes (ME Gone RVing Adventures)

We’re not splurging. We’re building.

That plasma money? It’s going straight into our 5th wheel renovation—turning an older RV into our long-term home.

And if you’ve ever renovated anything, you know how fast money disappears:

  • A single can of paint? $60
  • Supplies? Add up instantly

On top of that:

  • Sauna job income goes into Roots Investments (future security)
  • Bills like streaming services and phones are paid years in advance
  • We keep emergency funds to protect our future

Why? Because RV life can be unpredictable. Jobs can disappear overnight.

🛡️ We Don’t Trust Easy Stability

We’ve learned the hard way—this lifestyle requires preparation.

So we:

  • Pre-pay bills
  • Save aggressively
  • Diversify income streams
  • Build long-term investments

Not because we’re rich…
But because we refuse to be caught off guard again.

❤️ The Real Truth

We’re not rich.

We’re resourceful.
We’re disciplined.
And we work extremely hard for everything we have.

Every dollar has a job. Every side hustle has a purpose.

And when people support us by clicking an affiliate link or engaging with our content—it truly means more than you know. We started being smarter with  BOOK and it's not from Dave Ramsey either!!

🙌 Final Thought

Do we wish for a pay raise and a little breathing room?

Absolutely.

But until then, we’ll keep doing what we do best:
Working hard, staying ahead, and building a future we can count on.
