We love October because we get to eat donuts all month long. Childhood tradition for Evielynne was that she got donuts on her birthday with her Dad.  I've since compromised our entire month of donuts to be eaten because of all the celebration we get to do.

So in honor of our OCTOBER - we compromised on a duo gift we want

Escape to Mantua, Utah: Scenic Beauty, History, and Adventure

Snow fun early SPRING

Sometimes, life needs a pause—a place to step back, breathe, and take in the beauty around you. For us at Me Gone RVing Adventures, that place is Mantua, Utah. Just a short drive from our home base at Willard Peak Campground, Mantua has become our go-to escape when work stress builds or we simply crave a moment of calm in nature. With its 360-degree panoramic scenery, rolling hills, and sparkling reservoir, it’s the perfect place to recharge both body and soul.

A Hidden Gem Near Willard Peak Campground

Mantua is tucked away in a canyon between Brigham City and Logan, Utah. Despite its modest size, this small town offers big experiences. It’s a place where adventure, history, and serenity come together, making it ideal for a quick weekend getaway or even a leisurely day trip. For RVers, travelers, or anyone who enjoys the outdoors, Mantua is a destination that delivers more than just scenic views—it offers a complete immersion in natural beauty and local culture.

Mantua Reservoir: Water, Adventure, and Relaxation

The centerpiece of Mantua is the Mantua Reservoir. This man-made lake isn’t just a visual delight; it’s a hub for outdoor recreation. Whether you’re a fan of kayaking, boating, or water skiing, the reservoir provides endless opportunities for adventure. Families can enjoy the swimming beach, picnic areas, and campground, making it a perfect day trip or overnight stop for those traveling in RVs or tents.

For us, the reservoir is a place for rejuvenating walks. There’s something about following the shoreline, feeling the breeze off the water, and watching the sun glint across the surface that instantly melts stress away. On days when work feels overwhelming at Willard Peak Campground, we hop in the truck, take a short drive, and find ourselves completely immersed in nature’s therapy session.

Hiking Trails Around the Reservoir

Mantua isn’t just about water sports. The surrounding hills and trails offer a peaceful escape for hiking enthusiasts of all levels. You can wander along well-maintained paths that weave through forests, open meadows, and streams. Wildlife sightings are common here, including deer, moose, and even the occasional cougar. For anyone wanting to connect with nature, these trails provide a safe and serene environment to explore.

Mantua Poppy Fields: A Photographer’s Dream

One of Mantua’s most famous attractions is the poppy fields. Every year in early June, bright orange poppies and yellow wildflowers blanket the fields, creating a breathtaking visual spectacle. Photographers, nature lovers, and Instagram enthusiasts flock to this area to capture the perfect shot.

Even if you’re not a photographer, walking through these fields is a magical experience. The vibrant colors, combined with the fresh scent of wildflowers, make it a perfect setting for meditation, sketching, or simply enjoying a quiet picnic. Just remember—the bloom is fleeting, lasting only a couple of weeks, so timing is everything!

Preserving Danish Heritage: Little Copenhagen

Mantua’s charm isn’t just in its natural beauty; it’s also in its history and architecture. Settled by Danish immigrants, the town preserves a strong Danish heritage, earning it the nickname “Little Copenhagen”. Walking through Mantua, you’ll notice brightly colored doors, thatched roof homes, and architecture reminiscent of Denmark.

This cultural touch makes Mantua unique among Utah towns. It’s not just a place for outdoor enthusiasts—it’s also a destination for history buffs, cultural explorers, and anyone who appreciates the beauty of preserved heritage. The combination of nature and history makes Mantua a rare gem that appeals to everyone.

Wildlife Around Mantua

One of the joys of visiting Mantua is its abundant wildlife. Nestled in the mountains, the area is home to moose, deer, cougars, and snakes, among other species. Birdwatchers will find joy in spotting local and migratory species along the reservoir and in the surrounding forests. For us, seeing wildlife up close is a constant reminder of how lucky we are to experience RVing life in such a pristine environment.

Even casual visitors are likely to encounter wildlife, though safety is key. Observing from a distance, carrying bear spray if hiking in remote areas, and keeping food secure are simple steps that ensure a safe, memorable experience.

Why Mantua is Perfect for RVers

For full-time RVers like us at Me Gone RVing Adventures, Mantua offers everything we look for in a travel destination:

  • Accessibility: Just a short drive from our workamping location at Willard Peak Campground.

  • Adventure opportunities: Water sports, hiking, and wildlife observation.

  • Scenic views: 360-degree panoramas perfect for photography and relaxation.

  • Cultural immersion: Preserved Danish heritage and small-town charm.

  • Peace and quiet: A break from the busy campground environment and the daily grind.

Boondockers and state park visitors alike will find Mantua ideal for both day trips and overnight stays. With well-maintained campgrounds, easy access to the reservoir, and nearby hiking, it’s a destination that combines nature, culture, and tranquility.

Personal Experience: Finding Calm in Mantua

For us, Mantua isn’t just a destination—it’s therapy for the soul. Workamping can be rewarding, but it’s also demanding. The physical work, long hours, and interactions with guests sometimes create stress that needs release. Mantua’s reservoir walks, poppy fields, and quiet streets provide the perfect antidote.

On any given day, you might find us walking the perimeter of the reservoir, spotting deer grazing, or snapping photos of the poppies in bloom. Even with our three cats in tow at Me Gone RVing Adventures, the serenity of Mantua makes the short drive worthwhile.

Tips for Visiting Mantua

  • Timing is everything: Visit the poppy fields in early June to catch the bloom.

  • Pack for adventure: Hiking shoes, water, and a camera are essentials.

  • Respect wildlife: Observe from a safe distance and don’t disturb animals.

  • Explore history: Take a stroll through the town to enjoy Danish-inspired architecture.

  • Plan ahead: If camping, check local guidelines and reservations for Mantua Reservoir Campground.

Final Thoughts

Mantua, Utah, is more than a beautiful small town. It’s a place where nature, culture, and serenity converge. For full-time RVers, weekend travelers, and adventure seekers, it offers adventure, relaxation, and inspiration all in one spot. Whether you’re kayaking across the reservoir, photographing the poppy fields, or walking through the streets of Little Copenhagen, Mantua leaves a lasting impression.

For us at Me Gone RVing Adventures, it’s a place to recharge, reflect, and reconnect—with ourselves, our RV lifestyle, and the natural world around us. The next time you need a quiet, beautiful place to escape, make sure Mantua, Utah, is on your list.

It's almost 5 miles around the entire waters.

Time to take in the quiet and the beauty.

Tradition for us!!
Always makes for a perfect date!!

There is so much beauty and we didn't see a soul which made it more magical.

As Me Gone RVing Adventures makes more memories, we do have to slow it down a bit, for health and budget reasons. So we are going to continue to do simple fun things that cost little to no money at all. This will allow us to do more when we are able to hit the road again. (5 year plan but we know in the RV world that means nothing).

Life as Workampers: Adventures, Milestones, and the Road Ahead

If you sleep in an RV at night and conduct any activity in exchange for something of value, congratulations—you’re officially a Workamper! And that’s exactly what we are. For the past couple of years, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to manage Willard Peak Campground, a role we stepped into on October 1, 2022. Believe it or not, our second work anniversary is just around the corner, and we feel truly blessed for the experiences and memories this lifestyle has brought us.

Being workampers is not just a job—it’s a lifestyle. It’s a unique balance of responsibility and freedom. While our days are filled with ensuring the campground runs smoothly, maintaining the grounds, and creating a welcoming experience for guests, our days off are gold. These are the times we get to explore, adventure, and soak in the world beyond our campground office.

Hitting the Road on Our Days Off

On our free days, we love to pack the cooler with finger foods and cold drinks, fill the gas tank, and set out on road trips for hours on end. The beauty of RVing is the flexibility to choose adventure wherever we want, and exploring new areas has become a favorite pastime for us. From scenic byways to hidden gems near Hyrum, Utah, our truck has carried us to places that have added unforgettable experiences to our lives.

Of course, full-time RV life comes with its practical realities. For instance, our truck needs four new tires, but upgrading them has to wait until November. It’s a perfect example of how life on the road—or near it—requires planning, patience, and prioritization.

Discovering Local History

Exploring our area has been educational as well as fun. One of our favorite discoveries has been the two historic cabins near the Hyrum Library and Museum. Originally from the Hyrum area, these cabins were relocated in 2010 and are still standing as a testament to local history. Another highlight has been spotting the tallest building in town, formerly the First Security Bank building. The transformation of its signage—from Wells Fargo to Cache Valley Bank—reminds us how communities evolve over time, while history quietly persists around us.

In just two years, we’ve been fortunate to see and experience so much of our local area. We’ve grown attached to the people, places, and traditions, all while living and working in our RV. This kind of immersion is one of the true benefits of workamping—it allows you to experience a place deeply while still moving forward with your lifestyle goals.

Looking Ahead: RV Upgrades and Adventure

We know that in the RVing world, things can change quickly, and preparation is everything. Right now, one of our biggest goals is to upgrade to a better RV. We’re saving aggressively and investing in ourselves because we understand that the right equipment makes the difference in comfort, adventure, and long-term sustainability. Every choice we make now—every dollar saved—is an investment in the freedom and experiences we want to have as full-time RVers.

October: A Month of Milestones

October is shaping up to be an exciting month for Me Gone RVing Adventures, packed with personal and professional milestones:

  • October 1 – Started working for Willard Peak Campground

  • October 12 – My Birthday

  • October 14 – Became managers of Willard Peak Campground

  • October 30 – Mark’s Birthday

  • October 31 – We hit the road as full-time RVers

It’s not just about the dates; it’s about the journey they represent. From starting our workamping adventure to celebrating birthdays and finally taking the leap into full-time RVing, October symbolizes growth, commitment, and the thrill of living life on our terms.

Balancing Work, Life, and Adventure

Being a workamper is more than just a job—it’s a way of life. It requires dedication, flexibility, and the willingness to embrace both responsibility and freedom. By managing Willard Peak Campground, exploring the local area, and planning for our future RV upgrades, we’ve created a life that balances work, adventure, and preparation for the road ahead.

We’re living proof that full-time RVing is attainable, but it also requires planning, patience, and persistence. From saving for upgrades to taking care of daily responsibilities, every decision shapes our ability to enjoy life on the road. The best part? We get to do it together, with our three cats, and turn every milestone into a shared adventure.

The city boy sees the first free range cows birth and says....

What would your first guess be? If you said "what is hanging out of the cow"? and "Why isn't the farmer helping" you'd be right, followed up with "what happens if it dies". Ohhhh the sweet innocence of Mark is so adorable.

We love driving in Utah -
we just pick a road and pack our cooler/picnic food and fill the truck up with gas

Is it wrong to name them Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner and a whole lotta Snacks

Birth is a beautiful thing

About this time, Mark is grossed out.

It happened so quickly - I saw it and screamed to stop so that we could watch.

A typical day but not a typical day in Utah...

Exploring Utah History: A Must-Visit Museum Near Salt Lake City and Willard Peak Campground

If you’re near Salt Lake City—or even coming from Willard Peak Campground in Willard, Utah—this museum is absolutely worth the drive. We made the trip and were genuinely impressed. The displays in the museum are well-curated, informative, and visually engaging, offering a deep dive into the history and significance of the area.

One of the highlights was seeing the two replica locomotives—these were incredibly detailed and impressive, making the history come alive for both adults and kids. The craftsmanship and care put into these replicas show the dedication to preserving this part of our nation’s heritage.

There is also a National Park Service app available for the museum, which is a helpful guide—but it could use an update, especially regarding current times and events. Despite this, the experience is well worth it. Whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town, plan a few hours to explore, learn, and enjoy the exhibits. It’s a fantastic way to combine a little history, education, and fun in one trip.

Perfect for families, history buffs, or anyone looking for a meaningful day trip!

This site is definitely in the middle of nowhere, but it’s well worth the visit. The Rangers do an amazing job providing context, sharing stories, and highlighting the most important parts of the location’s history. Their passion and knowledge make the experience engaging and educational, turning a remote spot into a memorable adventure. Perfect for history buffs or anyone looking to explore off-the-beaten-path destinations!

We love remote landmarks, and visiting Golden Spike off-season in the cold didn’t slow us down—the drive was 10000% AWESOME! Entry was $20 at 6200 N 22300 W, Corinne, Utah. Don’t miss the NASA Lawn Museum nearby—it’s pretty amazing too. And for the record, Golden Spike is NOT an oversized toothpick, just saying 😉. Go see for yourself and experience this iconic piece of history with

RV LIFE vs VOTING

Nov 5th is coming rather quickly this year. With all the drama that's unfolded in the past couple of years, I fear they'll be no rest. RV LIFE vs VOTING

I'm not going to talk about who to vote for and why? That's a topic that I would not rather fight about. But what sits on my tongue is the ability to be able to vote. RV folk hit a different issue when it comes to voting and the rights too. Voting for the next President!

Absentee Voting by State... EACH state is different so we need to do our research. Like for us, our home state is Idaho - which thankfully "NO EXCUSE REQUIRED". But our Dakota Address holders "EXCUSE REQUIRED" .

To help out a bit: Order Your OWM Voter Box

  • Alabama - Excuse Required
  • Alaska - NO Excuse Required
  • Arizona - NO Excuse Required
  • Arkansas - Excuse Required
  • California - NO Excuse Required
  • Colorado - Vote by mail state - all voters automatically mailed a ballot
  • Connecticut - Excuse Required
  • Delaware - Excuse Required
  • District of Columbia - NO Excuse Required
  • Florida - NO Excuse Required
  • Hawaii - Vote by mail state - all voters automatically mailed a ballot
  • Idaho - NO Excuse Required
  • Illinois - NO Excuse Required
  • Indiana - Excuse Required
  • Iowa - NO Excuse Required
  • Kansas - Excuse Required
  • Kentucky - Excuse Required
  • Louisiana - Excuse Required
  • Maine - NO Excuse Required
  • Maryland - NO Excuse Required
  • Massachusetts - NO Excuse Required
  • Michigan - NO Excuse Required
  • Minnesota - NO Excuse Required
  • Mississippi - Excuse Required
  • Missouri - Excuse Required
  • Montana - NO Excuse Required
  • Nebraska - NO Excuse Required
  • Nevada - Vote by mail state - all voters automatically mailed a ballot
  • New Hampshire - Excuse Required
  • New Jersey - NO Excuse Required

  • Pennsylvania - NO Excuse Required
  • Rhode Island - NO Excuse Required
  • South Carolina - Excuse Required
  • South Dakota - Excuse Required
  • Tennessee - Excuse Required
  • Texas - Excuse Required
  • Utah - Vote by mail state - all voters automatically mailed a ballot
  • Vermont - NO Excuse Required
  • Virginia - NO Excuse Required
  • Washington - Vote by mail state - all voters automatically mailed a ballot
  • West Virginia - Excuse Required
  • Wisconsin - NO Excuse Required
  • Wyoming - NO Excuse Required
Full-timers you'll still need to have an established address (mailbox service - stick and brick address). Some voters will have to be registered to vote at the DMV.

There is still plenty of time to get things situated in time for you to place your vote.

This year, I've seen the most nastiness between people, friends and family. This is why I use my voice at the voting machine. I would rather raise my voice for GOD!! ME Gone RVing Adventures

Two Years at Willard Peak Campground — and Still Standing

We’re coming up on two years with Willard Peak Campground this October, and honestly… that’s just plum crazy. Two whole years. When we stop long enough to really think about it, the feeling isn’t shock—it’s pride.

So, does this make us happy? Yes. But more than that, it makes us feel accomplished. It tells us we showed up, stayed committed, and built something steady in a lifestyle that’s known for constant movement. And truth be told, we’ll likely be here for a couple more years. Not because we’re stuck—but because we’re strategic.

We’ve got some big, expensive goals ahead of us before hitting the road full-time again. And let’s be real for a moment—if we could just STOP buying other people RVs and focus on getting one for ourselves, that would be great. Yikes. True story.

Our poor beast has done its duty, but it’s tired. Very tired. And the need for a bigger kitchen is officially non-negotiable. This next RV purchase isn’t impulsive or emotional—it’s intentional. We’re taking it seriously because it has to support the next chapter of our RV life, not limit it.

That’s also why summer 2025 is such a big deal for us. I’ll be heading over to Montpelier Creek KOA Journey as their summer manager, allowing us to double our income and fast-track our long-term goals. It’s not glamorous, but it’s smart—and sometimes RV life is about discipline more than sunsets.

For now, we’re going to pause. Add some photos. Sit with this milestone. Two years of growth, learning, mistakes, laughs, and perseverance. Then we’ll come back and break it all down—numbers, plans, and what comes next.

One thing’s for sure: we’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we’re not done yet.

WE WON the WILLARD, UTAH July 4th Parade

Day DATE....
This summer was BEYOND crazy busy where days off were anything but days off.
We are not complaining because it's a BLESSING to have our job.
We just appreciate those stolen moments for ourselves.
